Job Description

This Senior Safety Engineer opportunity in Muscat centers on technical safety engineering for onshore oil and gas facilities. The role spans the project lifecycle from feasibility and concept design through FEED, execution and transition of facilities to operations.

The specialist is expected to develop technical safety deliverables, carry out consequence and risk analysis and participate in facility safety design, loss prevention, safeguarding reviews and contractor technical evaluations.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop technical safety and HSE philosophies, including fire-and-gas detection strategies, cause-and-effect documents and layouts.
• Conduct or review physical effects modelling, quantitative risk assessments and facility siting studies.
• Assess flare radiation, gas dispersion, emergency protection zones and safety equipment layouts.
• Prepare hazardous-area classifications, performance standards, safety-critical element reviews and bow-tie analyses.
• Support design and operational HSE cases and hazard/effect management studies.
• Review fire protection, escape arrangements and firefighting systems, including hydraulic calculations and related engineering drawings.
• Apply human-factors engineering studies and valve-criticality assessments.
• Lead or contribute to HAZID, HAZOP, ALARP, SIMOPS and other formal safety workshops.
• Assess vendor technical submissions, specifications and material requisitions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Degree in engineering.
• At least 15 years' total experience in engineering or consultancy for oil and gas facilities.
• At least ten years of technical safety engineering experience on onshore oil and gas facilities, with preparation of technical safety deliverables.
• Experience working across feasibility, concept, FEED, execution and transition-to-asset project phases.
• Technical safety studies, fire and gas engineering, risk modelling and safeguarding reviews experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience on Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) or Shell projects is preferred.
• Formal certification associated with physical-effects or risk modelling is preferred.
